Darthula Dalue SMITH-EADS was born 25 August,1873 near Lodi, in Wayne County, Missouri. She was the daughter of Charles Frank and Lucinda SMITH. On 29 Feb. 1896 inWayne County, Missouri she married William Franklin EADS JR the son of William Franklin EADS SR and Amanda America Clementine MCDANIEL-EADS. " They had Six Children, Frank, Buck, Mollie Camalene Tipton, Columbus F., James Arnold, and Ruth Nicholson.In 1880, 5-year old Darthula Smith was living in St. Francois Township, Wayne Co., MO, with younger brother James A. Smith, along with their parents Charles (age 28 and born in Tennessee) and Lucinda (age 27 and born in Missouri). Living next door to this young family were her grandparents, Alexander Smith Sr. and Catherine (Wright) Smith and their son Alexander Jr. By 1900, Darthula had been married for 5 years to William Franklin Eads Jr. and they had two of their children. In 1920, still in St. Francois Township, Wayne Co., MO, at age 44, she was a widow with three children still at home and lived next door to her daughter Mollie Camalene and son-in-law Pearl Marion Tipton. She worked as a washerwoman out of her rented house, is said to have had gorgeous red hair the color of a new copper penny, and was called "Granny Eads" by everyone because of her loving, maternal nature."
Darthula Dalue SMITH-EADS passed away November 13, 1963 in Wayne County, Missouri and was laid to rest at New Prosepect Cemetery, in Silva, Wayne, Missouri
